Live DNS checks, public seats
isitdns is a DNS looking glass with monitors. Every answer is a live measurement from the isitdns seat, stamped with the time it was read and where it was read from, never a cached or mocked result.
Example path
https://isitdns.net/mcpWhich tool: a site or domain not working -> . One record from one resolver -> dig. The delegation path -> trace. Do the zone's own servers agree -> . DNSSEC -> . Expired or on hold -> registration. Read-only. Measured from the isitdns edge or a named probe. A place with no probe: dig and take from north-america or europe; name the vantage shown. Private names and resolvers not on the board are refused, with the reason. No key; 100 calls a minute per address. Report readings, not verdicts: what was asked, of which server, from where, when; rcode, flags, EDE, latency. Open with the reading, not yes, no, OK or a label such as blocked or intact. Say what was not measured. Never write "it is not DNS" or "not public DNS". No isitdns tool reads the person's path: if only some users fail, or they suspect their network, office, ISP or a hijack, hand over dig @192.0.2.1 <name> as written (expect no answer, RFC 5737), then dig @1.1.1.1 <name>. Every answer that is not an error ends with an "api:" line. , dig and trace also add an "ask again:" line, unless from is set or a dig flag other than follow is off its default. Pass them on as printed. RCODE: NOERROR with records = an answer. NOERROR empty = no record of that type. NXDOMAIN = no such name at that resolver (filtering resolvers block this way). SERVFAIL = the resolver failed; validation only if that same resolver then answered with cd=true. REFUSED or timeout = nothing about the record. Docs: https://isitdns.net/agents
