Skill
A folder of written instructions (and sometimes scripts) the assistant loads when a task calls for it. It teaches; it does not connect.
A skill teaches an assistant how to do a task: a brand style guide, a way to build a financial model, the steps to file a bug. It is a folder with a SKILL.md file of instructions, and sometimes scripts or templates. The assistant loads it only when the task needs it.
Anthropic introduced Agent Skills on October 16, 2025. A skill doesn’t connect to an outside service, so it can’t read your data on its own. Plugins often bundle skills with a connector, so the assistant knows what to do and has the data to do it.
In our directory, apps made only of skills are marked as skill packs, separate from connectors.
